Day 1: Saturday 7 November - Arrive and Eat Well Without Overcommitting
Sleep: Monterey Akasaka, night 1 of 2. The refreshed two-night block is S$554 room-only.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 09:55-11:30 | Arrive at HND, immigration, baggage and customs. Obtain cash and activate mobile data. | Allow 60-95 minutes, longer if busy. Carry hotel address and passport. |
| 11:30-12:45 | Keikyu from HND to Shinagawa; JR Yamanote to Shimbashi; Ginza Line to Akasaka-Mitsuke; walk to hotel. | About 60-75 minutes including changes/walking; JPY700-1,000. Follow the actual train destination; not every airport train is direct to Shinagawa. |
| 12:45-13:00 | Leave luggage at Monterey. | Room may not be ready until 15:00. |
| 13:00-13:30 | Ginza Line, Akasaka-Mitsuke to Ginza; walk to Ginza Bairin Main. | JPY180-250; allow 25-30 minutes door-to-door. |
| 13:30-14:45 | Lunch: Bairin. Choose special katsudon or kurobuta loin tonkatsu, not both. | Published JPY2,400 special katsudon / JPY3,800 kurobuta set. Queue allowance included. |
| 14:45-15:30 | Return to Akasaka and check in. | Same subway route, JPY180-250. |
| 15:30-17:30 | Shower, nap and recover from the overnight flight. | No prepaid attraction. |
| 17:30-18:10 | Akasaka-Mitsuke to Shinjuku on the Marunouchi Line, transfer to the JR Yamanote Line for Takadanobaba, then walk to Debu-chan. | Allow 35-40 minutes and JPY250-350. This is the day's only deliberate cross-city dinner trip. |
| 18:10-19:15 | Hakata Ramen Debu-chan Takadanobaba Honten: standard Hakata tonkotsu ramen, firm noodles, with optional ajitama. | JPY1,500-2,500 allowance. Solo-friendly walk-in; this is planned, not reserved. Do not add gyoza here because gyoza has its own optional tasting category. |
| 19:15-20:10 | Return to Akasaka via Shinjuku and settle in early. | JPY250-350 rail/subway. Skip any extra stop if the overnight flight has caught up with you. |
Key rule: Keep arrival day flexible. If the flight is delayed or fatigue is high, use a near-hotel food fallback and move Bairin rather than compressing both meals.
Day 1 details
Food booking: Bairin official menu/hours lists 11:30-21:00, last order 20:00. Debu-chan's current listing gives daily 17:30-02:00, a multilingual menu and a typical JPY1,000-1,999 spend; recheck for exceptional closure. No prepaid booking is required for either stop. Allow 30-45 minutes for the Bairin queue. If the arrival day feels too tiring for Takadanobaba, use Hakata Ramen Akanoren Marunouchi for pot-cooked tonkotsu near Tokyo Station, or eat near the hotel. If the flight is delayed, move Bairin to an open slot rather than compressing both meals.
Souvenirs nearby
- Ginza Sembikiya fruit sandwich cookies: buy only if they are immediately available after Bairin; otherwise use the planned Day 8 shopping window.
- Yoku Moku Cigare: Ginza department-store food halls carry this broad-appeal gift, but do not queue on arrival day.
- Toraya small yokan: the compact, long-life hotel-area option from Toraya Akasaka. Use it only if energy remains after check-in.
- Skip rule: sleep and recovery outrank every souvenir today. Do not reduce the nap or add another cross-city stop.
Day 2: Sunday 8 November - Yanaka/Nezu, Tennis or Gear Shopping, and Wagyu
Sleep: Monterey Akasaka, night 2 of 2.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:15-07:50 | Light breakfast in the hotel or room and prepare running kit. | JPY700-1,500 allowance. Do not leave the hotel before 08:00. |
| 08:00-08:45 | Optional easy run, about 4 km: follow the public streets beside Akasaka Palace to Yotsuya, then return through Akasaka-mitsuke. | The loop has several hills; keep this conversational because the tennis lesson is later the same day. |
| 08:45-09:30 | Shower, hydrate and prepare for the day. | Skip the run if sleep, rain or leg fatigue makes it a poor trade. |
| 09:40-10:25 | Akasaka-Mitsuke to Tameike-Sanno on Ginza Line; walk within the connected station to Kokkai-gijidomae, then Chiyoda Line to Nezu. Walk to Yanaka. | 40-45 minutes including interchange/walking; JPY210-300. |
| 10:25-11:15 | Yanaka backstreets, small craft shops and a slow walk toward Nezu. | Outdoor streets free; individual shops open at varying times, often 10:00-11:00 onward. |
| 11:15-12:45 | Queue and lunch at Nezu Kamachiku. | JPY2,000-4,000 allowance for udon and sides. Join the queue before the 11:30 opening. |
| 12:45-13:45 | Nezu lanes and optional Yanaka Ginza. If appetite allows, choose one small bite such as Niku no Suzuki menchi-katsu or Yanaka Senbei, not a second lunch. | Walk 20-30 minutes between areas. Bring small cash; eat beside the shop and use its bin rather than eating while walking. |
| 13:45-14:45 | Travel to Hilton Tokyo, Shinjuku, and change for tennis. | Chiyoda/Marunouchi or Oedo Line; allow 45-60 minutes and JPY250-400. |
| 15:00-16:00 | One private tennis lesson on Hilton Tokyo's outdoor court, taught by Tokyo Tennis International. | Visitor lesson JPY16,000 for 60 minutes. The separate weekend visitor court tariff is JPY10,000 per court for 1-2 people; obtain a written all-in quote because the published pages do not state whether a lesson already includes court hire. |
| 16:00-16:40 | Change, weather check and short recovery at the fitness centre. | Confirm in advance that a non-hotel visitor may use its changing facilities. Bring tennis shoes; ask for a loan racket when booking. |
| Protected 16:40-17:40 |
Hilton -> Nishi-shinjuku; Marunouchi Line to Akasaka-mitsuke, same-level transfer to Ginza Line, then walk from Ginza to Ushigoro Ginza, ONE GINZA 7F, 1-8-19 Ginza. | Target the Nishi-shinjuku platform by 16:50; 16:55 is latest-safe. JPY210-300; arrive by 17:40. |
| 18:00-20:00 | Reserved wagyu yakiniku dinner at Ushigoro Ginza. | JPY10,000-15,000 planning allowance, plus drinks if substantial. Request one-person dining; course minimums must be checked. |
| 20:00-21:00 | Return to hotel and recover from tennis. | Ginza Line; JPY180-250. There is no checkout tomorrow; keep the evening light. |
Key rule: Protect the 18:00 Ushigoro request. If tennis is unavailable, use the Day 2 tennis-shopping fallback and leave Victoria by 16:50.
Day 2 details
Reservations and hours:
- Kamachiku announced Sunday/Monday opening in 2026, so older guides saying Sunday closed are outdated. Sunday has a specific kake-udon offering: do not assume every weekday noodle is available. Its booking page lists Sunday lunch 11:30-16:00 and dinner-only reservations. If sold out, use TAYORI in Yanaka for a seasonal set meal, subject to its current calendar.
- Ushigoro Ginza lists weekends 11:30-23:30, last order 22:30. This is the Ginza branch, not Ginza Namiki-dori. Use the reservation link on its official site, or call +81-3-3538-1129. One-person availability was not confirmed. If declined, reserve Manten Sushi Marunouchi for a solo counter meal after tennis.
- Hilton Tokyo's fitness page lists outdoor tennis from 07:00-21:00 and directs lesson bookings to Tokyo Tennis International. Email info@tokyotennisinternational.com with the date, 15:00 start, one adult, level, English-language request and racket-rental request. The provider's published policy charges 100% for cancellations within 24 hours; wet courts cannot be used.
Fallback if the tennis lesson is unavailable or rain-cancelled:
| Time | Tennis-shopping route | Practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 13:45-14:40 | Travel from Nezu/Yanaka to Shinjuku Station west side. | Skip the Hilton changing-room detour. Use Chiyoda/Marunouchi or Oedo Line; JPY250-400. |
| 14:40-16:10 | Windsor Racket Shop Shinjuku, Tochigi Building B1/1F/2F, 1-3-15 Nishi-Shinjuku. | Primary specialist stop for rackets, bags, shoes, strings and fitting advice. Published 10:30-19:30, normally open daily and tax-free. |
| 16:10-16:50 | Optional comparison at Victoria Shinjuku, 4-1-14 Shinjuku, near the south/east exits. | Use for bags, apparel and multi-brand price comparison. Skip it if Windsor is stringing a purchased racket or if shopping decisions are taking longer. |
| Protected fallback 16:50-17:50 |
Walk to Shinjuku Marunouchi Line, transfer at Akasaka-mitsuke to Ginza Line, then walk to Ushigoro. | Leave Victoria no later than 16:50; target a train by 17:00 and arrive by 17:40. |
This fallback replaces the 15:00-16:40 lesson/change block; it is not additional sightseeing. If purchasing a frame, call Windsor first to confirm grip size, stock and same-day stringing turnaround. Windsor advertises same-day stringing when capacity permits, but Shinjuku does not have the racket test-hit corner found at its Shibuya branch.
Souvenirs nearby
- Yanaka Senbei: the route-native take-home choice during the existing 12:45-13:45 Yanaka window. Choose a sealed pack and protect the crackers from crushing.
- Toraya small yokan: use the Akasaka shop near the hotel as a fallback rather than adding a Yanaka detour.
- Skip rule: defer Ginza gifts to Day 8. Tennis and the 18:00 Ushigoro reservation leave no post-dinner shopping window.
Day 3: Monday 9 November - Kamakura Half-Day and Hakone Transfer
Sleep: Hakone Yutowa, night 1 of 2. The main suitcase stays with Monterey; carry only the two-night Hakone bag.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:15-08:00 | Breakfast, check out and leave the main suitcase with Monterey. | Carry only the small Hakone bag and obtain written confirmation for storage through 11 Nov. |
| 08:00-09:20 | Akasaka-Mitsuke -> Tokyo Station, then direct JR Yokosuka Line to Kamakura. | Allow 70-80 minutes including the transfer; about JPY1,200-1,400. |
| 09:20-10:00 | Walk via Wakamiya-oji to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu for the main approach, ponds and upper shrine. | Grounds free; skip the Monday-closed museum. |
| 10:00-10:35 | Return through Komachi-dori and make only route-native souvenir purchases. | End any queue that exceeds five minutes. |
| 10:35-11:00 | Reach Akimoto, 1-6-15 Komachi, and join the opening queue. | The restaurant is on the third floor; carry cash. |
| 11:00-12:00 | Lunch at Akimoto: shirasu bowl with Kamakura vegetable tempura. | JPY2,000-3,500. Boiled shirasu is the reliable substitute when raw shirasu is unavailable. |
| 12:00-12:25 | Put the Hakone bag in a Kamakura Station locker, take the Enoden to Hase and walk to Kotoku-in. | Keep the locker receipt/key secure; pay per Enoden ride. |
| 12:25-13:05 | Visit Kotoku-in and the Great Buddha. | JPY300, plus JPY50 if entering the statue; pay on arrival. |
| 13:10-14:10 | Visit Hasedera for the Kannon hall, gardens and coastal viewpoint. | JPY400; pay on arrival and leave on time. |
| 14:10-14:25 | Return by Enoden to Kamakura Station. | Use the first suitable train; this is not a shopping leg. |
| 14:25-14:55 | Retrieve the locker bag, use the restroom and prepare for the protected train. | Be through the JR gates by 15:00. |
| Protected 15:07-17:03 |
JR Kamakura -> Ofuna -> Odawara, then Hakone No. 13 to Hakone-Yumoto and the Hakone Tozan Line to Gora. | Primary route costs about JPY1,780 including the short reserved-seat supplement. Protect every connection. |
| 17:03-17:50 | Walk from Gora to Yutowa, check in and confirm the 18:00 dinner seating. | Target the hotel around 17:10. If the fallback reaches Yutowa around 17:25, check in directly and call if any later. |
| 18:00-19:30 | First included Hakone Yutowa dinner. | Japanese semi-buffet, selected main and 90 minutes of free-flow drinks. |
Key rule: The 15:07 JR departure from Kamakura is absolute. Shorten shopping or Hasedera before risking the protected connections and 18:00 Yutowa dinner.
Day 3 details
Bag and delay rule: use a Kamakura Station locker for the small Hakone bag before taking the Enoden. The main suitcase remains with Monterey from 9 to 11 November. The local-train fallback reaches Gora at about 17:18 and Yutowa around 17:25; dinner still works, but call the hotel if arrival will be later.
Use the attraction-entry guide for Kamakura: Hachimangu is free, while the Great Buddha and Hasedera are pay-on-arrival with no advance reservation needed.
Souvenirs nearby
- Kurumicco: try Hachimangu-mae or Komachi only if the queue is under five minutes.
- Hato Sabure: the easiest route-aligned classic at Kamakura or Hase; protect the fragile biscuits.
- Kamakura Hangetsu or Mameya: choose one compact sealed pack during the Komachi window.
- Skip rule: all shopping ends by 10:35 or within the Hase walking route. Never delay the 15:07 JR departure.
Use the Kamakura take-home table for shelf life and allergens.
Day 4: Tuesday 10 November - Full Hakone Loop and Yutowa Dinner
Sleep: Hakone Yutowa, night 2 of 2. Breakfast and dinner are included in the selected rate.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:15-08:00 | Included breakfast at Yutowa. | Japanese and Western buffet; finish in time for the ropeway sequence. |
| 08:00-09:10 | Walk to Gora Station and take the cable car to Sounzan. | Covered by the Hakone Freepass; allow for the connection and queue. |
| 09:15-09:45 | Ropeway from Sounzan to Owakudani. | Freepass; official November operating window 09:00-17:00, weather permitting. |
| 09:45-10:30 | Owakudani viewpoints and an optional black egg. | Viewpoint free; allow JPY500-800 for the snack. |
| 10:30-11:30 | Ropeway via Ubako to Togendai, then wait for the sightseeing boat. | Reserve 45-60 minutes including the boat wait; no priority boarding assumed. |
| 11:30-12:15 | Hakone Sightseeing Cruise to Moto-Hakone-ko. | Freepass standard cabin; choose a live departure serving Moto-Hakone. |
| 12:15-13:15 | Shinsho Soba: handmade soba and optional Lake Ashi wakasagi. | JPY2,000-3,500; Tuesday is preferable because Wednesday is commonly listed closed. |
| 13:15-14:00 | Walk to Hakone Shrine, cedar-lined approach and lakeside. | Grounds free; skip the torii photo queue if long. |
| Protected 13:35-14:23 |
Return to Moto-Hakone-ko platform 1 and take the 13:58 Hakone Tozan Bus H to Ninotaira-iriguchi. | Reach the stop by 13:50. Use the Freepass-covered Hakone Tozan service, not Izu-Hakone Bus. |
| 14:23-16:45 | Walk to and visit the Hakone Open-Air Museum. | JPY1,800 online / JPY2,000 same day. Prioritise outdoor sculptures, Picasso Pavilion and Symphonic Sculpture. |
| Protected 16:45-17:00 |
Walk directly back to Yutowa. | Skip the museum shop and footbath if time is slipping. |
| 17:00-17:50 | Change, rest and confirm the restaurant. | This is a short reset, not a full onsen session. |
| 18:00-19:30 | Second included Hakone Yutowa dinner. | Official service is 17:30-21:00, last entry 19:30; confirm this second meal on the voucher. |
Key rule: Leave Hakone Shrine by 13:35 and shorten the museum if delayed. The second included dinner is targeted for 18:00.
Day 4 details
Food and weather: Shinsho Soba features handmade soba and seasonal lake smelt. Tuesday is the better fit because Wednesday is commonly listed as its closure; still check live hours. If shut or sold out, use Bakery & Table Hakone.
If ropeway or boat service is suspended, visit the Open-Air Museum earlier and use the remaining time at Yutowa. Visitors with asthma or respiratory conditions should consult Owakudani's volcanic-gas restrictions before travelling.
Souvenirs nearby
- Nuts Vessel or Hakone no Saka: buy at Gora only when it cannot delay dinner.
- Hakone Rusk: do not detour to Sengokuhara or Hakone-Yumoto.
- Owakudani black eggs: eat them in Hakone; they are not a Singapore take-home gift.
- Skip rule: the loop, protected bus, museum and included dinner outrank shopping.
See the Hakone take-home table for packable options.
Day 5: Wednesday 11 November - Gora Brunch and Tokyo Return
Sleep: Monterey Akasaka, night 1 of 3 in the final block. The refreshed three-night Standard Double baseline is S$642 room-only.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:30-09:30 | Included breakfast, final onsen, packing and Tamura FastPass attempt. | FastPass is priority access, not a fixed reservation; current operation governs. |
| 09:30-10:40 | Check out, leave the small bag at Yutowa and reach Tamura Ginkatsutei. | Settle bathing tax and confirm short same-day bag storage. |
| 11:00-11:50 | Tofu katsuni brunch at Tamura. | JPY1,500-3,000. If not seated by 11:15, leave to protect the return. |
| Protected 11:50-12:08 |
Collect the bag and reach Gora Station. | Be on the platform by 12:03 for the 12:08 train. |
| 12:08-13:19 | Gora -> Hakone-Yumoto -> Odawara. | Covered by the Hakone Freepass; protect the 13:05 local connection. |
| 13:44-14:18 | Kodama 818, Odawara platform 14 -> Tokyo platform 15. | Reserved seat; JPY3,300-4,000, outside the Freepass. |
| 14:18-15:30 | Travel to Monterey, check in and retrieve the stored main suitcase. | The final room block begins today; keep the small bag with you. |
| 15:30-17:30 | Rest, unpack and reset. | No optional cross-city stop. |
| 17:30-18:20 | Travel to Sumiyaki Unafuji Yurakucho. | Allow a calm arrival for the rescheduled booking. |
| 18:30-19:45 | Unagi dinner: hitsumabushi or a standard eel box. | JPY6,000-9,000; reserve one counter seat. |
| 19:45 onward | Return to Monterey. | Keep the evening light before Nikko. |
Key rule: Leave Tamura if not seated by 11:15, protect the 12:08 mountain train and keep the rescheduled 18:30 Unafuji reservation.
Day 5 details
Pass and luggage: the Hakone Freepass remains valid through today. The main suitcase has stayed with Monterey since 9 November; retrieve it only after returning from Hakone.
Tamura rule: submit the same-day FastPass if it is operating, but treat 11:15 as the hard abandonment point. Missing the 12:08 train threatens Kodama 818 and the Tokyo reset before dinner.
Souvenirs nearby
- Final Gora chance: buy a preselected Nuts Vessel or Hakone no Saka only when it cannot delay Tamura.
- No transfer shopping: do not browse Hakone-Yumoto during the 12:48-13:05 connection.
- Tokyo rule: the afternoon is for check-in and recovery; defer general gifts to Day 8.
See the Hakone take-home table for alternatives and storage.
Day 6: Thursday 12 November - Nikko in One Long Day
Sleep: Monterey Akasaka, night 2 of 3 in the final block. Carry only a small day pack.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| Protected 08:30-09:15 |
Walk to Akasaka-mitsuke, take Ginza Line platform 2 toward Asakusa and follow signs to Tobu. | Target the Metro platform by 08:40; 08:45 is latest-safe. |
| 09:15-09:30 | Locate the assigned platform and reserved car at Tobu Asakusa. | Keep the 15-minute boarding margin. |
| 09:30-11:22 | Revaty Kegon 13 to Tobu-Nikko. | Budget JPY3,000-3,500 including base fare and supplement. |
| 11:22-11:30 | Walk to Kamaya Cafe du Reverbere. | Go directly to lunch; do not browse the station. |
| 11:30-12:20 | Kamaya NIKKO-don with roast beef and yuba. | JPY2,000-3,000. Confirm Thursday hours live and leave by 12:20. |
| 12:20-12:45 | Return to Tobu-Nikko and queue for the Chuzenji bus. | Protect the 12:45 departure. |
| Protected 12:45-13:30 |
Tobu Bus YK from stand 2A to Chuzenji Onsen. | Mountain traffic remains the main risk. |
| 13:30-14:20 | Kegon Falls and a brief Lake Chuzenji view. | Elevator JPY600; skip it before risking the return bus. |
| Protected 14:30-14:57 |
Bus to Nishisando Iriguchi. | Confirm the stop and go directly uphill. |
| 15:05-15:35 | Fast Nikko Toshogu visit: Yomeimon and the principal courtyard. | JPY1,600; skip the museum, audio guide and inner-shrine steps. |

| Protected 16:20-18:15 |
Revaty Kegon 42 to Asakusa. | Be aboard by 16:10. |
| 18:15-18:25 | Walk from Tobu Asakusa to Asakusa Mugitoro Honten. | About five minutes from the front exit. |
| 18:30-20:00 | Mugitoro set or seasonal dinner course. | Plan JPY4,000-8,000. Confirm one-person seating; otherwise attempt a walk-in. |
| 20:00-20:45 | Ginza Line to Akasaka-Mitsuke and return to Monterey. | If Mugitoro cannot seat one, use Wantan Tei near the hotel. |
Key rule: The 12:45, 14:30 and 15:49 buses and 16:20 Revaty are protected. Cut sightseeing or leave food unfinished before sacrificing a departure.
Day 6 details
Scope and weather: this accelerated route preserves Kamaya, Kegon, a brief lake view, Toshogu and Shinkyo. If visibility or the Irohazaka road forecast is poor, skip Oku-Nikko and use the World Heritage area plus Meiji-no-Yakata.
Dinner: Mugitoro is open Thursday 17:00-22:30, last order 21:00, and has 180 seats plus an English menu. Its online listing starts reservations at two guests, so confirm one diner directly; otherwise use a walk-in attempt, then the near-hotel fallback.
Souvenirs nearby
- Nikko Jingoro Senbei: preferred long-life savory gift.
- Nikko Rusk, sealed yokan or Yuba Kashi: choose one only if immediately available.
- Skip rule: do not add a shop stop. Abandon all shopping before risking the 16:20 Revaty.
Use the Nikko take-home table to preselect one item.
Day 7: Friday 13 November - Imperial Palace Run, Aoyama, Kuu and Monjayaki
Sleep: Monterey Akasaka, night 3 of 3 in the final block.
| Time | Activity and route | Cost / practical detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:15-07:50 | Light breakfast and running preparation. | JPY700-1,500; keep the meal light before the run. |
| 08:00-09:30 | Primary 10 km Imperial Palace run: reach Hanzomon, complete one counter-clockwise palace loop and return. | Keep left, yield to pedestrians and use an easy pace. |
| 09:30-10:15 | Cool down, shower and change. | Do not compress this buffer before the Aoyama sequence. |
| 10:15-10:45 | Short Hie Shrine visit. | Grounds free; leave promptly. |
| 10:45-11:30 | Reach CENTRE THE BAKERY Aoyama and buy shokupan. | JPY1,000-2,000; skip if sold out or the queue threatens lunch. |
| 11:30-11:50 | Walk to Aoyama Ototo and check in. | Arrive early for the reserved seat. |
| 12:00-13:00 | Ototo seasonal grilled-fish lunch with iron-pot rice. | JPY2,000-4,000; reserve one seat. |
| 13:00-15:45 | Deliberate Aoyama buffer. Optional tea only if it cannot affect Kuu. | This is recovery time after the run, not an extra destination checklist. |
| Protected 15:45-16:08 |
Walk to HEAD SPA Kuu Omotesando and check in. | Be at reception by 16:08 for the fixed 16:15 slot. |
| 16:15-18:15 | Kuu Premium Head Spa in a private room. | Allow two hours for the 90-minute course plus consultation and blow-dry. |

| 20:45 onward | Return to Monterey. | Tokyo gifts remain deferred to Day 8. |
Key rule: Keep the 08:00 run easy, protect the shower buffer and arrive at Kuu by 16:08. Optional tea never outranks the fixed spa and dinner bookings.
Day 7 details
Spa booking rule: Kuu remains fixed at 16:15. If Friday is unavailable, choose another documented salon rather than compressing the revised Hakone or return schedules.
Running rule: the Imperial Palace run has moved here from departure morning. Skip it in unsafe weather or if recovery is poor; Hie, CENTRE and Ototo still begin at 10:15.
Souvenirs nearby
- CENTRE shokupan: food for the trip, not a Singapore souvenir.
- Tokyo rule: Hie, lunch, Kuu and Tamatoya leave no deliberate gift-shopping window.
- Skip rule: defer Tokyo-wide gifts to Day 8.

| 15:45-16:30 | Optional short seated break, or go directly to Kagari if not needed. | Cafes are not a planning priority; keep this as flexible recovery time rather than a destination stop. |

Ginza Line Akasaka-mitsuke -> Shimbashi; JR Yamanote toward Shinagawa; Keikyu airport-bound service -> HND Terminal 3, subject to the issued ticket. | Leave by 19:15; 19:30 is latest-safe. JPY700-1,000; check each live destination board before boarding. |
| 20:30-23:15 | Airline check-in/bag drop when open, security, immigration and airport downtime. | Aim for roughly 3.5 hours before departure. Counter opening may be later; check JAL instructions. |
| 23:15 onward | Be at the gate by the time printed on the boarding pass. | Boarding may begin around 30-45 minutes before departure; actual airline instructions prevail. |
Key rule: Airport travel is the final protected movement. Abandon the Kagari queue by 17:15 and leave Monterey by 19:15, using the terminal on the issued ticket.
Day 8 details
Kyubey booking: Official menu and authorised booking routes. Open lunch 11:30-14:00, dinner 17:00-22:00; closed Sundays and Mondays. Book through your hotel concierge or its linked My Concierge Japan/Ikyu channel. Ask for one counter seat and check which lunch menus the channel permits. Published direct-price lunch menus are not necessarily the final agent package price.
Ramen: Kagari's listing gives approximately 11:00-21:30, no reservation. Check its official updates for exceptions. Bring a card/IC payment method; recent listings report cashless payment. Published prices differ across older guides, so the amount here is an allowance.
Fallback: a confirmed hotel sushi-counter lunch, or a walk-in sushi outlet with a clear displayed menu. Do not wait so long that luggage collection/airport travel becomes rushed. Saturday is intentionally not a countryside return day.
Optional room access: Seven nights means losing your room on Saturday morning. Ask for paid late checkout or a separate day-use room if a shower or nap before the flight matters. Budget S$100-300 additional as an unquoted allowance; an eighth full night may be required for guaranteed evening room access. Luggage storage does not include a room or shower.
Use the food-souvenir guide to choose shelf-stable gifts and keep the airport departure protected.
Souvenirs nearby
- Formal and long-life: Toraya small yokan.
- Broad office/family gift: Yoku Moku Cigare or Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory cookies.
- Refined fruit gift: Ginza Sembikiya fruit sandwich cookies.
- Modern shareable: PRESS BUTTER SAND.
- Buy last at Haneda: Tokyo Banana, subject to stock and the printed shelf life.
Follow the souvenir buying plan. No queue may delay Kagari, luggage collection or the 19:15 airport departure.
Day 9: Sunday 15 November - Arrive Home and Rest
- 00:05 JST: assumed JAL departure from HND.
- 06:40 Singapore time: assumed arrival SIN. Clear arrival procedures and go home.
- Protect the rest of Sunday from commitments. Airport-to-home cost depends on your address and is outside the Japan budget.
- Submit any required Singapore arrival declaration through the official ICA service within its applicable window. Requirements/exemptions depend on your status and mode of entry; check rather than assume.
Key rule: Keep Sunday free for recovery and complete any required arrival declaration through the official ICA service.
Day 9 details
All flight times remain subject to the issued JAL ticket and live airport instructions.
Protected Transport Guide
These are the exact movements that protect a reservation, a fixed regional service, an included hotel dinner or the international flight. Timetables were verified on 8 October 2026 for the stated travel dates. Recheck every fixed service one week before travel and again on the day; weather, engineering work and operator revisions can still change the plan.
Platform confidence: Confirmed service / track means the date-specific official train detail publishes both; Fixed direction platform comes from the operator's station guide; Platform range is the operator's published boarding area, with the exact track assigned later; Check board means no reliable advance assignment exists. For frequent Tokyo trains, board the first correct-direction service within the written target/latest-safe window. Google Maps links show live routing and may not retain the future departure time; the written timetable below is authoritative.

| Day 6 · Kamaya | Walk-in | Go directly from Tobu-Nikko. | Leave by 12:20 even if food remains. |
| Day 6 · Mugitoro | Confirm / walk-in | Reach the restaurant around 18:25. | If one diner cannot be seated, use Wantan Tei near Monterey. |
| Day 7 · CENTRE Aoyama | Walk-in takeaway | Buy after the run and Hie Shrine. | Skip if the queue threatens the 12:00 Ototo reservation. |
| Day 8 · Kagari | Same-day queue | Join around 16:30. | Abandon by 17:15. |
| Days 3-5 · Yutowa meals | Included | Confirm both 18:00 dinner requests at check-in. | The voucher must show dinner on 9/10 Nov and breakfast on 10/11 Nov. |
Booking guide: trains and passes

| Revaty Kegon 13 and 42 | Book/request: sales open 09:00 JST one month before travel. | Official Tobu online service. | One adult on 12 Nov: 09:30 Asakusa -> Tobu-Nikko and 16:20 return. | Carry the limited-express purchase screen/email plus a separate basic fare ticket or IC fare. |
| Kamakura -> Hakone protected route | Reserve the 16:13 Hakone No. 13 seat; recheck all local services. | Odakyu/Hakone booking channel and live station service. | Kamakura 15:07 -> Gora 17:03, including Hakone No. 13 from Odawara. | Keep the reserved-seat details offline and know the 16:17 local fallback. |
| Kodama 818 | Book/request now; verify after 14:00 JST on 11 Oct. | SmartEX. | One ordinary reserved seat on 11 Nov, Odawara 13:44 -> Tokyo 14:18. | Use the confirmed QR ticket or assigned IC card and keep the email available offline. |
| 3-day Hakone Freepass | Book/request: available one month before use; valid 9-11 Nov. | Official Hakone Navi / EMot or Odawara Station. | Odawara-origin 3-day pass. Activate for the outbound Hakone transfer. | A digital pass must remain accessible on the same logged-in phone; buy paper at Odawara if that is more robust. |
| Tokyo/Kamakura local rail | No reservation. | IC card / station fare. | Metro, JR local and Enoden sectors. | Keep sufficient balance. IC does not replace Tobu limited-express or Shinkansen products. |
| Nikko local buses | No reservation. | Accepted IC/cash or an applicable pass. | Exact written services toward Chuzenji and back. | Recheck the official timetable and board by destination, not merely route color. |
| Hakone local transport | Included. | Hakone Freepass. | Tozan train, cable car, ropeway, designated buses and standard sightseeing cruise. | There is no priority boarding. Izu-Hakone Bus is not covered. |
| Haneda airport route | No reservation. | IC card. | Live Tokyo rail route to the issued terminal. | Read every destination board; the issued JAL ticket governs the terminal. |
Carry offline: Tobu purchase email/screen; SmartEX QR ticket or registered-IC assignment; Hakone Freepass display or paper pass; hotel and restaurant confirmations. A screenshot is only a backup where the operator permits it.
Booking guide: attraction entry
| Day / place | Status | Ticket action | Practical rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 3 · Tsurugaoka Hachimangu | Free | No reservation or ticket for the grounds. | The museum is closed Monday and is not in this route. |
| Day 3 · Kotoku-in / Great Buddha | Pay on arrival | Buy gate admission; statue-interior entry is a separate optional fee. | No reservation required. |
| Day 3 · Hasedera | Pay on arrival | Buy admission at the temple. | No advance reservation needed for this visit; preserve the last-entry margin. |
| Day 4 · Owakudani viewpoints | Free | No attraction ticket; transport is included in the Freepass. | Check volcanic-gas restrictions, weather and ropeway status instead. |
| Day 4 · Hakone Sightseeing Cruise | Included | Standard cabin is covered by the Freepass. | No individual reservation assumed; choose a live departure serving Moto-Hakone. |
| Day 4 · Hakone Shrine | Free | No reservation or grounds ticket. | Skip the lakeside torii photo queue if it is long. |
| Day 4 · Hakone Open-Air Museum | Buy online optionally | The official online ticket can be cheaper than gate admission; buy after the weather/service recheck. | It is not a rigid timed reservation. Leave at 16:45 for Yutowa. |
| Day 6 · Kegon Falls | Free / pay on arrival | The upper view is free; buy the elevator ticket on site if time permits. | Do not reserve. Skip the elevator before risking the 14:30 bus. |
| Day 6 · Nikko Toshogu | Pay on arrival | Carry cash and buy shrine-only admission at the gate. | Online vouchers require exchange at Tobu-Nikko Station Tourist Center, which conflicts with lunch and the 12:45 bus. |
| Day 6 · Shinkyo exterior | Free | View from the public road. | Do not buy the bridge-crossing ticket in this itinerary. |
| Day 7 · Hie Shrine | Free | No reservation or ticket. | Keep the visit short enough to reach CENTRE and Ototo. |
Do not buy reseller attraction bundles unless they reduce total cost without adding voucher-exchange or timed-entry friction.
Booking guide: travel insurance
This is a practical shortlist for one Singapore resident under 70, with no known pre-existing condition, travelling alone to Japan. It is not personalised financial advice. Benefits below were checked in October 2026; the quote, certificate, policy schedule and policy wording issued when you buy govern.
Recommended cover: buy a single-trip policy. Prefer at least S$500,000 overseas medical cover, with S$1 million as the stronger target, and S$1 million or unlimited emergency evacuation/repatriation. Set cancellation cover against the actual non-refundable flight, hotel, dining, spa, tennis and rail exposure, not the full S$4,500-5,400 trip envelope. Check baggage per-item and electronics limits rather than relying on the headline total.
| Rank / plan | Best for | Relevant strengths | Why it fits this trip | Disadvantages / checks | Apply |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Singlife Travel Plus | Best overall | Up to S$1m overseas medical, S$5,000 baggage, S$1m personal liability and 24/7 assistance. | Strong default balance for a healthy traveller under 70 without paying automatically for the top Prestige tier. | It may not be the cheapest quote. Baggage per-article limits are much lower than the total. Verify cancellation, curtailment and delay limits in the issued schedule. CFAR is unavailable because its 14-day purchase window has passed. | Official plan and quote |
| 2. Sompo Travel Superior | Best Japan assistance | S$500,000 overseas medical, S$1m evacuation, S$10,000 cancellation, 24/7 hotline and arranged cashless outpatient service in Japan. | The Japan cashless pathway can reduce reimbursement friction if assistance arranges the provider. | Medical cover is below S$1m alternatives. Baggage and per-item limits are modest. Cashless service is not guaranteed at every clinic: call assistance first. Standard delay starts later than FWD Business. | Official plan and quote |
| 3. Allianz Platinum | Higher-limit conventional plan | Up to S$1m medical, S$1m emergency transport, S$10,000 cancellation, S$5,000 baggage, 24/7 assistance and selected COVID-19 cover. | Clear all-in alternative when cancellation, baggage and global assistance limits matter. | Platinum can cost more. Silver has lower limits and is not equivalent. Search-and-rescue and per-item sublimits still apply; confirm the issued benefit table. | Official plan and quote |
| 4. FWD Business | Customisable value quote | Business/First delay cover starts at three hours; the range offers up to S$1m medical and unlimited evacuation/repatriation, with optional COVID-19 and pre-existing-condition cover. | Useful price/value comparison if the short delay trigger matters; unnecessary add-ons can be left out. | Up to figures span tiers, so confirm the Business schedule rather than assuming First limits. Add-ons complicate comparison. CFAR is unavailable because its seven-day window has passed. |
Official plan and quote |
| 5. MSIG TravelEasy Elite | Balanced alternative | Broad travel, baggage and inconvenience cover with 24/7 emergency medical assistance; Premier reaches S$1m medical and evacuation. | A useful fifth conventional quote; full TravelEasy is simpler here than assembling TravelEasy Flex modules. | Read the current Elite table: do not attribute Premier maxima to Elite. Standard TravelEasy excludes pre-existing conditions. Do not let lounge/eSIM offers drive the choice. | Official plan and quote |
Selection rule
- Start with live quotes for Singlife Travel Plus and Sompo Travel Superior.
- Choose Singlife if the S$1 million medical limit and broad balance matter most.
- Choose Sompo if its Japan cashless outpatient process is worth more than the medical-limit difference.
- Quote Allianz Platinum when willing to pay more for its clear S$10,000 cancellation and S$5,000 baggage limits.
- Use FWD Business and MSIG Elite as price/benefit checks. Select either only after its tier-specific schedule improves the benefits that matter.
- Do not choose on a discount percentage, lounge pass or eSIM gift.
How to apply
- Total the trip costs that are already non-refundable under their actual cancellation terms.
- Open an insurer's official Singapore page above. Select Single Trip, Individual and Japan/Asia.
- Use 6-15 November 2026 if leaving home for Changi before midnight on 6 November; otherwise ensure the dates cover the full period from leaving home until returning on 15 November.
- Enter legal identity, age, residency, contact and health declarations truthfully.
- Under the current facts, do not add pre-existing-condition, winter-sports, water-sports, rental-car or CFAR cover. Reconsider only if the itinerary or health facts change.
- Compare the generated schedule with the medical/evacuation targets and actual non-refundable exposure above.
- Read covered cancellation events, known-event exclusions, baggage sublimits, delay triggers, excess, activity exclusions and claim deadlines before paying.
- Buy promptly once selected. Future covered events can be insured only after the applicable cover starts; insurance cannot cover an event already known at purchase.
- Save the certificate, schedule, wording, policy number and assistance contact offline. Do not put private policy details on this public page.
Claims and limitations
- Call assistance before arranging expensive treatment, evacuation or a cashless provider where reasonably possible.
- Keep medical receipts/reports, booking invoices, proof of payment, refund confirmations and boarding passes. Ask the carrier for written disruption confirmation or a baggage irregularity report, and make a local police report promptly when the policy requires one.
- Notify the insurer and submit within its deadline.
- Ordinary recreational running and the scheduled tennis lesson do not by themselves justify an adventure-sports rider, but the purchased wording controls.
- Standard cancellation responds only to named covered events and non-refundable costs, not a voluntary change of mind. Known events or advisories predating purchase may be excluded.
- The first trip payment is outside Singlife's 14-day and FWD's seven-day CFAR windows. Do not add or rely on CFAR for this trip.
- If the no-pre-existing-condition assumption changes, stop using this ranking and obtain appropriate cover.

Hotels
| Check-in / checkout | Nights | Recommended hotel and room | Nightly planning allowance | Observed quote and inclusions |

| 7-9 Nov | 2 | Hotel Monterey Akasaka, Standard Double, non-smoking, listed 16-18 m2 | S$220-280 | S$554 total, room only |
| 9-11 Nov | 2 | Hakone Yutowa, Standard Twin, non-smoking, 27.3 m2 | About S$289 official conversion / S$300 Trip.com, half-board | JPY71,300 official or S$600 Trip.com, breakfast and dinner for one guest |
| 11-14 Nov | 3 | Hotel Monterey Akasaka, Standard Double, non-smoking | S$200-280 | S$642 total, room only |
| Total | 7 | Two different properties, three stays | About S$1,773 using the observed official Yutowa conversion, or S$1,796 using Trip.com |
Selected stays
- Hotel Monterey Akasaka: 7-9 November and 11-14 November. Target the non-smoking Standard Double for one registered guest. Ask in writing about storing one suitcase from 9 to 11 November.
- Hakone Yutowa: official 9-11 November inventory / Trip.com comparison / official hotel / dining. On 8 Oct the official Standard Twin
Yutowaplan showed JPY71,300, taxes and fees included, with three rooms, while Trip.com showed S$600 for the comparable half-board stay. - Yutowa's final voucher must list dinner on 9 and 10 November and breakfast on 10 and 11 November. Confirm both 18:00 dinner requests, bathing tax, private-bath procedure and tattoo restrictions.
- Card conversion, bathing tax and the cancellation terms on the actual confirmation govern. The official result offered pay-at-hotel or online payment; calendar the selected rate's exact cancellation cutoff before paying.
Decision-relevant Hakone alternatives
| Hotel | Room/plan checked | Two-night quote | Best for | Material drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hakone Yutowa | Standard Twin, 27.3 m2; breakfast and dinner for one | JPY71,300 official / S$600 Trip.com half-board | Selected: strongest balance of Gora access, room size, onsen, meals and cost | No swimming pool; final voucher must retain all four meals |
| Hotel Marroad Hakone | Superior Twin, 28 m2, mountain view | Live quote required | Potential Gora saving with onsen and French dinners | Older property, steep 900 m approach and station shuttle only about 09:00-18:00 |
| Fujiya Hotel | Hana Goten Deluxe Twin, 35-49 m2; breakfast and dinner for one | Live quote required | Heritage architecture, pool and a larger room | Usually materially more expensive and less convenient for the Gora dinner sequence |
| Hakone Ashinoko Hanaori | Casual Twin, 23 m2; breakfast and dinner buffet for one | Live quote required | Lake setting, onsen and immediate Togendai access | Smaller room and wrong base for the selected Gora sequence |
Yutowa remains selected. The alternative pages were rechecked for 9-11 November on 8 October, but their dynamic room prices were not exposed reliably enough to retain prior-date figures. Compare a live one-adult, two-night half-board quote before switching; do not split the Hakone nights.
Food and dining alternatives
The daily schedule is authoritative. These tables are route-aware replacements, not extra meal commitments; recheck the linked branch and same-day opening before changing a plan.
Meal strategy
The sequence deliberately alternates noodles, fish, beef, eel, regional specialties, hotel semi-buffets, tofu, yam and monjayaki. The fallback is chosen for the same route, not merely the same cuisine.
| Day | Lunch | Dinner | Practical fallback |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1, Ginza/Akasaka/Takadanobaba | Ginza Bairin: tonkatsu/katsudon | Hakata Ramen Debu-chan: Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen | Use Akanoren Marunouchi if the westward dinner detour feels excessive; delayed flight: eat near the hotel and move Bairin |
| 2, Nezu/Shinjuku/Ginza | Nezu Kamachiku: udon | Ushigoro Ginza: wagyu yakiniku | TAYORI for lunch; Manten Sushi Marunouchi if Ushigoro cannot seat one |
| 3, Kamakura/Gora | Akimoto: shirasu bowl and Kamakura vegetable tempura | Hakone Yutowa: first included semi-buffet dinner at 18:00 | Use boiled shirasu if needed; protect the 15:07 train and call Yutowa if the fallback is delayed |
| 4, Lake Ashi/Gora | Shinsho Soba: handmade soba and optional lake smelt | Hakone Yutowa: second included semi-buffet dinner at 18:00 | Bakery & Table Hakone; shorten the museum before delaying dinner |
| 5, Gora/Yurakucho | Tamura Ginkatsutei: tofu katsuni brunch | Sumiyaki Unafuji Yurakucho: hitsumabushi/unagi | Leave Tamura if not seated by 11:15; preserve the Tokyo reset before dinner |
| 6, Nikko/Asakusa | Kamaya Cafe du Reverbere: NIKKO-don with roast beef and yuba | Asakusa Mugitoro: mugitoro set or seasonal course | Leave Kamaya by 12:20; if Mugitoro cannot seat one, use Wantan Tei near the hotel |
| 7, Akasaka/Aoyama/Hibiya | Aoyama Ototo: grilled fish and iron-pot rice; CENTRE THE BAKERY Aoyama takeaway | Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya Hibiya: staff-cooked monjayaki | Protect the shower buffer, 12:00 lunch and 16:15 Kuu appointment |
| 8, Ginza | Ginza Kyubey: counter sushi | Ginza Kagari: chicken-paitan ramen | Manten Sushi for lunch; department-store takeaway if Kagari's queue is too long |
Hakone and Nikko alternatives
These regional choices are a route-aware supplement to the scheduled meals, not extra meal commitments. They were not filtered by the Tokyo guide's single cross-platform rating threshold. Recheck November hours and seasonal closures before using one.
Hakone
| Role / restaurant | Cuisine / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best local specialty near a transfer: Yuba-don Naokichi / Google | Yuba rice bowl; Tabelog 3.49; JPY1,000-1,999 | Three minutes from Hakone-Yumoto. Listed 11:00-18:00, closed Tuesday, no reservations. Strong regional alternative, but queues of 30-60 minutes can consume a transfer window. |
| Best bookable Gora meal: ITOH DINING by NOBU / booking | Wagyu teppanyaki; Tabelog around 3.5; lunch about JPY4,500+, dinner about JPY14,000+ | Approximately 5-8 minutes from Gora Station. Daily 11:30-15:00 / 17:00-21:00 and reservation-friendly. Best polished substitute if hotel dining changes, but it repeats premium beef. |
| Best casual Gora dinner: Gora Brewery & Grill | Grill, pizza and Hakone craft beer; allow JPY4,000-6,000 | Listed daily into the evening and walkable from central Gora. Use only if an included Yutowa dinner cannot be used; November online availability was not yet exposed. |
Hakone decision: retain Shinsho Soba, Tamura Ginkatsutei and both included Yutowa dinners. Itoh Dining and Gora Brewery remain contingencies rather than additional meals.
Nikko
| Role / restaurant | Cuisine / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled station lunch: Kamaya Cafe du Reverbere / Google | NIKKO-don with roast beef and yuba; Tabelog around 3.35, Google around 4.1; JPY2,000-3,000 | About two minutes from Tobu-Nikko. Confirm Thursday hours, order immediately at 11:30 and leave by 12:20. |
| Selected Asakusa dinner: Asakusa Mugitoro Honten / Gurunavi | Mugitoro and seasonal yam dishes; Tabelog around 3.49 with 1,100+ reviews; plan JPY4,000-8,000 | Five minutes from Tobu Asakusa. Thursday dinner 17:00-22:30, last order 21:00; 180 seats and an English menu. Confirm one diner or attempt a walk-in after the 18:15 Revaty. |
| Reference dinner, not Thursday: Yoshikami Asakusa | Classic yoshoku: beef stew, omurice and hayashi rice | Retained as an Asakusa reference, but not active on Day 6 because Thursday is its regular closure. |
| Best full-meal alternative: Meiji-no-Yakata / Google | Historic yoshoku; Tabelog around 3.6; mains roughly JPY2,400-5,500 | Near the World Heritage area. Omurice, beef hamburg, trout and beef stew; listed around 11:00-19:30. Use for the bad-weather/shortened sightseeing plan, not the full Oku-Nikko day. |
| Best casual yuba course: Nagomi Chaya / Google | Yuba kaiseki; lunch | On the Shinkyo-to-station corridor. Listed 11:30-15:30, last order 14:30, closed Wednesday/irregular days. Good only if Lake Chuzenji is removed or Toshogu is visited earlier. |
Nikko decision: keep Kamaya as the early sit-down lunch, then take the 12:45 uphill bus. The 16:20 return reaches Thursday-open Mugitoro without removing Kegon, Lake Chuzenji, Yomeimon or Shinkyo.
Tokyo category guide
The shortlist keeps no more than three decision-relevant choices per category. Ratings and hours were observed during planning and may change.
Ramen
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 tonkotsu pick: Hakata Ramen Debu-chan Takadanobaba Honten / Google | Tabelog 3.70; daily 17:30-02:00 listed | Takadanobaba; JPY1,000-1,999 | Authentic Hakata-style pork-bone broth and a good solo counter experience. Order the standard ramen with firm noodles; add ajitama only if hungry. Planned walk-in, not reserved. |
| Best itinerary fit: Ginza Kagari Honten / Google | Tabelog 3.66; Google 4.2 (4,694); score 29.2 | Ginza; JPY1,000-1,999 | Creamy chicken-paitan close to Day 8 shopping. Walk-in only; keep the existing queue-abandonment deadline. |
| Low-effort tonkotsu fallback: Hakata Ramen Akanoren Marunouchi / Google | Official listing; daily service currently shown to 23:00 | Marunouchi Building 6F; about JPY2,000 | Pot-cooked tonkotsu with easier access from Akasaka. Use only when Day 1 energy does not justify the Takadanobaba detour. |
Gyoza
Gyoza is an optional between-meal tasting, not a dinner assignment. Order one standard plate and stop; if a shop's minimum or signature portion is large, treat it as a meal replacement instead.
| Role / restaurant | Quality and access | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall: Okei / official site | Iidabashi; Tabelog Gyoza Top 100 pedigree; one plate is six handmade gyoza | The strongest dedicated tasting. Saturday service is currently 11:30-14:00 / 17:00-21:00, cash only and no reservations; it needs its own Iidabashi detour. |
| Best close-to-hotel option: Rengetsu / Google | Minami-Aoyama near Nogizaka; pan-fried and boiled gyoza | Most practical from Akasaka/Aoyama. It is a small reservation-led restaurant, so check whether a single short gyoza order is accepted before making a special trip. |
| Iconic Ginza option: Ginza Tenryu Honten / official site | Ginza-itchome; famous jumbo gyoza; Tabelog Gyoza Top 100 | The signature plate contains eight very large dumplings. Poor solo-snack sizing: share it or use it to replace a meal, not between Bairin and dinner. |
Monjayaki
Monjayaki is a proper lunch or dinner category, not a snack. It is Tokyo's loose, dashi-led griddle dish; replace one scheduled meal if you choose it and allow 75-120 minutes.
| Role / restaurant | Quality and access | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best first experience: Tsukishima Monja Moheji Honten / official Instagram | Tsukishima Monja Street; seafood-led dashi; JPY2,000-3,999 planning range | Ask staff to cook a mentaiko-mochi-cheese or seafood monja at the table. Reserve if the selected branch allows it; several nearby Moheji branches can absorb queues. |
| Classic alternative: Monja Kura / Google | Tsukishima; long-running specialist with a broad topping list | Good for a more traditional shop atmosphere. Ask for cooking help if needed and arrive before the peak rather than using it as a rushed walk-in. |
| Selected Day 7 dinner: Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya Hibiya / Google | Hibiya/Yurakucho; Tabelog about 3.31 (300+), Google about 4.5 (2,800+) | Best route after Kuu: reservations accepted, staff cook at the table, and Friday service is listed 16:00-23:00. Reserve 19:15 for one. |
Other Small Bites
These are optional one-item stops for appetite gaps. Pick for route fit, not as a checklist, and avoid them within roughly 60-90 minutes of a priority meal.
| Bite / shop | Best route | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Menchi-katsu or korokke: Niku no Suzuki | Day 2 Yanaka; Sunday currently 10:30-18:00, closed Monday/Tuesday | Choose one hot fried item after Kamachiku only if still hungry. It is the best itinerary-fit savoury bite, not a second lunch. |
| Senbei: Yanaka Senbei Shinsendo | Day 2 Yanaka/Nippori | Buy one rice cracker or a small take-home pack. Better than adding another fried item after lunch; verify Sunday stock and closing time. |
| Sakadane anpan: Ginza Kimuraya / Google | Day 1 or Day 8 Ginza; official hours currently 10:00-21:00 | The classic yeast-fermented anpan is compact and easy to take away. Buy one flavour, preferably after rather than before Bairin or Kyubey. |
Eating etiquette: use the shop's standing area or pause immediately beside it, return packaging to the shop when requested, and do not eat while walking through crowded streets. Carry a small waste bag because public bins are limited.
Late-Night Bites Near Hotel Monterey
These are unscheduled hunger fallbacks for 21:00 or later, not extra planned meals. All are walkable from Hotel Monterey Akasaka without a taxi; walking times are approximate from the hotel entrance, and the return is generally uphill. Akasaka's strongest true late-night cluster is Korean food, so the list is intentionally not forced into equal cuisine coverage.
| Role / restaurant | Rating and late hours | Walk / budget | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best quick noodle stop: Tokyo Aburagumi Sohonten Akasaka-Mitsuke / Google | Google 4.2 (1,000+); Mon-Sat 11:00-05:00, Sunday 11:00-22:00; may close when noodles sell out | About 6-8 minutes; JPY1,000-1,500 | Order regular-size abura soba and mix in vinegar/chilli oil. Fast, solo-friendly and the closest dependable option, but on Sunday arrive by about 21:15 rather than treating 22:00 as an arrival time. |
| Best hot small meal: Akasaka Chuka Wantan Tei / Google | Tabelog 3.49 with roughly 900+ reviews; daily 07:00-05:30, food last order 05:00 | About 7-9 minutes; JPY1,000-3,000 | Choose wonton soup/noodles or one small Chinese dish. Better than ordering a large rice-and-shared-dish spread when the goal is a late bite. |
| Best 24-hour soup: Akasaka Ichiryu Bekkan / Google | Tabelog around 3.49 with 1,300+ reviews; Google 4.2 (350+); listed 24 hours | About 13-15 minutes; JPY1,500-3,000 | Order seolleongtang, season the mild ox-bone broth at the table, and keep the banchan modest. The most comforting all-night option after a cold or tiring day. |
Late-night rule: use one place only when genuinely hungry or when a planned dinner failed. For a light need, choose Wantan Tei or a soup at Ichiryu; use Aburagumi for a fast substantial bowl; use Chungsol or Cheonggyehwa only for a proper meal. Recheck the same-day listing before leaving the hotel, especially on Sunday and public holidays.
Teishoku
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall: Shinjuku Kappo Nakajima / Google | Tabelog 3.67; Google 4.3 (985); score 38.1 | Shinjuku; lunch JPY1,000-1,999 | Sardine-focused set lunches offer exceptional value near the tennis route. Queue before opening; Sunday and Monday are closed. |
| Best itinerary fit: Aoyama Ototo / Google | Tabelog 3.72; Google 4.4 (195); score 28.9 | Gaienmae; lunch JPY2,000-2,999 | Seasonal fish sets within easy reach of Akasaka. Reserve when possible; Sunday is closed. |
| Distinctive breakfast/lunch: Katsuo Shokudo / Google | Tabelog 3.68; Google 4.1 (755); score 26.6 | Shibuya; JPY2,000-2,999 | Bonito-led rice set with a narrow daytime window. Use only if the day already includes Shibuya; reserve or arrive early. |
Sushi Omakase
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall and itinerary fit: Ginza Kyubey Honten / Google | Tabelog 3.66; Google 4.4 (2,609); score 41.2 | Ginza; lunch JPY8,000-9,999, dinner JPY20,000-29,999 | Keep the scheduled Day 8 counter lunch. Reserve through an authorized channel and confirm the menu available to one diner. |
| Best value: Manten Sushi Marunouchi / Google | Tabelog 3.61; Google 4.3 (1,556); score 28.8 | Marunouchi; JPY8,000-9,999 | Compact counter near Tokyo Station with online booking. Strongest value substitute for Kyubey. |
| Western-route option: Sushi Tokyo Ten Shibuya / Google | Tabelog 3.55; Google 4.2 (1,063); score 15.9 | Shibuya; JPY10,000-14,999 | Use only if shopping moves to Shibuya or Omotesando. Reserve and confirm a one-person counter seat. |
Conveyor Belt / Kaiten Sushi
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall and itinerary fit: Nemuro Hanamaru KITTE Marunouchi / Google | Tabelog 3.55; Google 4.1 (3,055); score 25.8 | Tokyo Station; JPY2,000-2,999 | Hokkaido seafood in KITTE, directly useful around the Tokyo Station transfers. No reservations; take a queue ticket before exploring nearby. |
| Best Google rating: Kaiten Sushi Toriton Tokyo Solamachi / Google | Tabelog 3.50; Google 4.2 (2,534); score 17.0 | Oshiage; lunch JPY4,000-4,999, dinner JPY5,000-5,999 | Strong Hokkaido selection and an English menu, but long waits and the Skytree detour make it a destination rather than a fallback. |
| Airport-route option: Toriton Atre Shinagawa / Google | Tabelog 3.50; Google 4.0 (450); score 0.0 | Shinagawa Station; JPY3,000-3,999 | Convenient only when already changing trains at Shinagawa. No reservations, frequent queues and an 80-minute seating limit; do not jeopardize the Haneda buffer. |
Only these three Tokyo branches met all hard filters in the current check. Popular alternatives such as Ginza Onodera and Katsu Midori remain excluded because their observed Tabelog scores were below 3.50.

| Best itinerary fit: Ushigoro Ginza / Google | Tabelog 3.69; Google 4.4 (1,282); score 42.6 | Ginza; dinner JPY10,000-14,999, lunch JPY8,000-9,999 | Keep the planned Day 2 request because it avoids rerouting after tennis. Confirm solo booking and course minimums. |
Udon
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall: Udon Maruka / Google | Tabelog 3.81; Google 4.3 (3,842); score 44.5 | Jimbocho; under JPY1,000 listed | Outstanding Sanuki-style noodles at low cost. Walk-in queue; closed Sunday and public holidays. |

Tempura
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reference value choice, not scheduled: Kaneko Hannosuke Nihonbashi Honten / Google | Tabelog 3.52 (3,740); Google 4.2 (5,500+) | Mitsukoshimae; about JPY1,600-2,500 | Strong crowd-validated value, but removed from the active timeline to keep the 13 Nov Aoyama sequence coherent. Use only as a meal substitution on another Tokyo day. |
| High-end benchmark, not selected: Tempura Kondo / Google | Tabelog 3.97; Google 4.4 (976); score 48.5 | Ginza; lunch JPY10,000-14,999, dinner JPY20,000-29,999 | Technically refined but poor value for a diner who already finds subtle tempura underwhelming. |
| Distinctive splurge: Mikawa Zezankyo / Google | Tabelog 4.13; Google 4.3 (654); score 45.5 | Monzen-Nakacho; JPY20,000-29,999 | Edo-style counter experience from a veteran specialist. Reservation only and a dedicated detour. |

| Closest heritage option: Nodaiwa Azabu Iikura Honten / Google | Tabelog 3.66; Google 4.3 (1,689); score 31.0 | Azabu-Iikura; dinner JPY8,000-9,999 listed | Heritage setting close to Akasaka. Reservations generally require two; confirm whether a solo walk-in is realistic. |
Soba
| Role / restaurant | Ratings and screening score | Area / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall: Kanda Matsuya Honten / Google | Tabelog 3.65; Google 4.3 (3,837); score 37.2 | Kanda/Awajicho; JPY1,000-1,999 | Historic, high-volume benchmark near central Tokyo. Solo-friendly and walk-in; closed Sunday and Monday. |

Hambāgu / Japanese Hamburger Steak
| Role / restaurant | Rating / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall experience: Hikiniku to Kome Shibuya / official booking rules | Tabelog 3.70, 2025 Yoshoku East Top 100; JPY1,000-1,999 listed | Three charcoal-grilled patties served individually with rice and condiments. Queue-proof it with the online Advance Priority Ticket; 11:00-15:00 / 17:00-21:00, closed Wednesday. Best if a day already moves to Shibuya. |
| Best classic wagyu hamburg: Meat Yazawa Gotanda / official site | Tabelog 3.68, 2025 Yoshoku East Top 100; lunch JPY2,000-2,999 | 100% black-wagyu hamburg with steak options. No useful itinerary adjacency and frequent queues; target a weekday around 14:00 or the 17:00 dinner opening. |
| Best post-tennis alternative: Hamburg Will / booking | Tabelog 3.69, 2025 Yoshoku East Top 100; lunch JPY1,000-1,999, dinner JPY3,000-3,999 | Distinctive 100% Iwanaka-pork hamburg, counter seating and bookable dinner slots. Strongest Day 2 fallback because it avoids travelling from Shinjuku to Ginza after tennis. |
Sukiyaki
| Role / restaurant | Rating / budget | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best solo/value fit: Ginza Yoshizawa / official menu and booking | Tabelog 3.67; lunch JPY2,000-2,999, dinner JPY10,000-14,999 | The individual sukiyaki lunch pot is published at JPY2,900; the full dinner course is JPY12,000 plus service. Open 11:00-14:00 / 17:00-22:00, closed Sunday/holidays. Most practical introduction for one diner; reserve rather than join the lunch line. |
| Best traditional destination: Ningyocho Imahan Honten / official reservations | Tabelog 3.68, 2024 Sukiyaki/Shabu-shabu Top 100; lunch JPY5,000-5,999, dinner JPY10,000-14,999 | Classic tableside service in Ningyocho. Reservation-only through the official site at least three days ahead with online prepayment. Published dining-hall seating starts at two guests, so obtain explicit solo confirmation before paying. |
| Best Asakusa heritage option: Asakusa Imahan Kokusai-dori Honten / official site | Tabelog 3.62, 2024 Sukiyaki/Shabu-shabu Top 100; lunch JPY4,000-4,999, dinner JPY15,000-19,999 | Open daily around 11:30-21:30, last order 20:30. It can replace Mugitoro only with a confirmed solo reservation and is a much heavier, more expensive dinner. |
Desserts
These are optional break or substitution references, not scheduled meals. Ratings and review counts were observed on 4 October 2026; official pages govern current hours, closures, menus and booking rules.
| Role / venue | Rating / budget | Vicinity | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall: ToshiYoroizuka TOKYO / Google / official shop | Tabelog 3.75 (1,984); Google 4.1 (1,317); plan JPY2,000-3,000 | Near Tokyo Station/Kyobashi; closest to the Day 5 return route | Choose a seasonal petit gateau or Mont Blanc. The shop is listed 11:00-19:00; treat it as an optional stop only when the day has genuine slack. |
| Best near the hotel: Patisserie SATSUKI / Google / official shop | Tabelog 3.80 (1,858); Google 4.2 (1,389); individual cakes vary widely, with the 2026 Super Mont-blanc at JPY3,780 | About 550 m from Akasaka-Mitsuke and close to Hotel Monterey Akasaka | Easiest premium dessert without cross-city travel. Prioritize the November Super Mont-blanc or Super Melon Shortcake; current stock governs. The official shop lists service to 20:00, with cakes and bread from 11:00. |
| Best classic fruit parlour: Ginza Sembikiya Ginza Main Store Fruit Parlour / Google / official area listing | Tabelog 3.56 (1,181); Google 4.2 (981); plan JPY2,000-4,000 | Near the Day 1 and Day 8 Ginza routes | Choose the seasonal fruit parfait. It is walk-in only. Current listings vary by day around 11:00-18:00/19:00; use the official/live listing and do not risk a protected booking for a queue. |
Matcha
This is a tea-led shortlist: matcha and Japanese tea are the experience, with wagashi as the pairing. Dessert-led matcha parfait, gelato and novelty-drink shops are intentionally excluded.
| Role / venue | Rating / budget | Vicinity | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best near-hotel traditional choice: Toraya Karyo Akasaka / Google / official shop | Tabelog 3.51 (847); Google 4.5 (1,775); plan JPY1,000-3,000 | Near Hotel Monterey Akasaka and Akasaka-Mitsuke | Order seasonal namagashi with matcha. Walk-in only; the tearoom is listed 11:00-17:30, last order 17:00, and normally closes on the 6th except December. Best low-detour tea stop. |
| Best dedicated tea experience: Sakurai Japanese Tea Experience / Google / official details / reservation | Tabelog 3.54 (199); Google 4.5 (517); selected tea with wagashi from about JPY2,500, tea course from about JPY5,950 | Near the Day 7 Omotesando route | A simple tea and wagashi can use part of the 13:00-15:45 buffer only if confirmed and unhurried. Do not compress Ototo or Kuu; the full tea course is not active in this itinerary. |
| Best Ginza tea salon: HIGASHIYA GINZA / Google / official menu / reservation | Tabelog 3.52 (674); Google 4.3 (542); matcha from JPY1,430, seasonal tea and wagashi set JPY1,930, Saka JPY4,950, Samajiki JPY6,000 | Near the Day 1 and Day 8 Ginza routes | Reserve for a planned salon experience; a simple tea and wagashi set needs less time. The official current listing says 11:00-19:00, last order 18:00, seven days a week; this overrides Tabelog's conflicting Monday closure until reconfirmed. |
Head Spa, Bakery and Doughnuts
These are curated choices rather than extra required stops. Kuu is the fixed Day 7 spa; choose another documented salon if that Friday slot is unavailable rather than changing the Hakone sequence.
Salon-style wet head spa:
| Role / salon | Course and price | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Selected Day 7 spa: HEAD SPA Kuu Omotesando | Premium Head Spa, published from JPY19,800 / 90 minutes; allow about two hours | Fully private and English-friendly. Target Friday 13 Nov at 16:15; online booking may require prepayment, so confirm the exact course and cancellation terms before paying. |
| Lower-cost alternative: Jardin Tokyo | Jardin Essence Head Spa, 100 minutes / JPY16,500 | Private-room wet treatment with scalp cleansing, shampoo, cream head spa, hair treatment, neck/shoulder massage and blow-dry. Use if Kuu cannot provide the Day 7 slot. |
| Best treatment-led Ginza alternative: CARINA GINZA | Scalp-care courses from JPY14,300/60 minutes; targeted 75-minute courses around JPY18,150 | Microscopic diagnosis, water-jet peeling, shampoo massage and carbonated spring. Allow 90-105 minutes total; use only if the spa is moved to a Ginza day. |
Bakery shortlist:
| Role / bakery | Quality and access | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best itinerary fit: CENTRE THE BAKERY Aoyama | Tabelog around 3.7 and 2026 Bread Tokyo Top 100; near Omotesando | Keep the Day 7 takeaway stop for Japanese shokupan. Weekday sessions are listed 10:00-14:00 / 15:00-18:00, with early closure after sell-out. |
| Best destination bakery: Boulangerie Sudo | Tabelog 3.86 and 2026 Bread Tokyo Top 100; Shoin-jinja-mae | Excellent Danish pastries and savoury breads, but current Friday-Sunday 11:00-19:00 opening and the Setagaya detour do not fit the itinerary cleanly. |
| Best French alternative: VIRON Shibuya | 2026 Bread Tokyo Top 100; daily service currently listed from morning to evening | Choose for Baguette Retrodor and croissants only if another activity already moves to Shibuya. |
Doughnut shortlist:
| Role / shop | Style and access | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall: HIGUMA Doughnuts x Coffee Wrights Omotesando | Freshly fried Hokkaido-ingredient doughnuts; Omotesando | No longer scheduled because Wednesday is closed and Kamakura replaces the former Day 3 route. Use only if another day naturally passes Omotesando and the queue is under 15 minutes. |
| Best near the hotel: HOCUS POCUS | Tabelog 3.65; fried, baked and steamed experimental doughnuts; Nagatacho | Strong low-detour fallback from Akasaka. Official hours are 11:00-18:00 weekdays / 12:00-18:00 weekends and holidays. |
| Trend-led alternative: I'm donut? Omotesando | Tabelog around 3.6; soft nama-style doughnuts | Use only if the line is visibly under 15 minutes. It is a social-media priority rather than the queue-adjusted quality choice. |
Activities and shopping
Onitsuka Tiger: Where to Buy
Use a brand-operated shop rather than a marketplace reseller. Store names, hours and stock can change, so verify through the Onitsuka Tiger Japan site during the travel week.
- Onitsuka Tiger Ginza, primary: 7-8-8 Ginza, Chuo-ku; listed 11:00-20:00 daily when checked. It is a short walk from Kyubey and fits the Day 8 shopping block without rerouting.
- Ginza Red Concept Store, specialist backup: Seishokan Building, 4-5-1 Ginza; listed 11:00-20:00 daily. Use it if seeking the Mexico 66-focused range or personalisation, but confirm that the desired service and same-day collection are operating.
- Onitsuka Tiger Shibuya 1, stock fallback: 1-21-3 Jinnan, Shibuya-ku; listed 11:00-20:00. Visit only if Ginza lacks the required model/size, because it adds a cross-city detour on departure day.
At the first shop, show a screenshot of the exact model, colour code and size. Try both shoes, walk in them, inspect the box label, and ask the shop to check another branch before travelling across town. Carry the physical passport and ask whether the purchase qualifies for tax-free handling; eligibility and packaging rules are decided at purchase. Do not plan around a cafe inside a concept store.
One Tennis Lesson
Primary booking: Sunday 8 November, 15:00-16:00 at Hilton Tokyo, Shinjuku. The hotel lists an outdoor court open 07:00-21:00 and professional lessons by reservation through Tokyo Tennis International. The published visitor lesson fee is JPY16,000 for 60 minutes or JPY24,000 for 90 minutes. A separate Hilton weekend court tariff shows JPY10,000 for 60 minutes for one or two visitors, so ask whether court hire is included before paying.
Email info@tokyotennisinternational.com and provide: 8 November 2026; preferred 15:00 start plus two fallback times; one adult; playing level; desired 60-minute private lesson in English; loan-racket request; and a request for the total including court, balls, equipment, tax and visitor changing-room access. Bring sportswear and tennis shoes. The published cancellation policy is 100% within 24 hours; confirm rain handling because the court is outdoors.
Alternatives:
- Jinji Tennis Center offers private lessons in English or Japanese, 07:00-21:00, at courts including Hiroo, Shinagawa, Ariake and Kiba. It lends a racket free if requested. Email jinji.tennis1@gmail.com for a quote that includes coach and court; ask for a central location and wet-weather terms.
- Tokyo Tennis states that all lessons are in English and equipment is provided. Email tokyo.tennis@outlook.com for a one-off adult quote, court location and total fee.
Book only one provider. If the lesson is unavailable or rain-cancelled, use the tennis-shopping fallback below or return to the hotel to rest; do not displace a confirmed dinner or force tennis into departure day.
Tennis Shopping Fallback
Use this only when the Hilton lesson is not confirmed or is cancelled. The Day 2 route prioritises shops that preserve the 18:00 Ginza dinner rather than crossing Tokyo for a marginally larger selection.
| Priority / shop | Location and hours | Best for | Itinerary decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary: Windsor Racket Shop Shinjuku / Google | 1-3-15 Nishi-Shinjuku; 10:30-19:30, normally daily | Broad specialist selection of current rackets, racket bags, shoes, strings and accessories; staff fitting advice; same-day stringing subject to workload | Spend 60-90 minutes here first. It is about three minutes from JR Shinjuku west exit or directly by Oedo Line D4. |
| Comparison stop: Victoria Shinjuku / Google | 4-1-14 Shinjuku; Sunday 10:30-19:30, other days generally 11:00-20:00 | Racket bags, shoes, clothing and general multi-brand sports inventory; tax-free store | Add only if Windsor does not have the preferred bag/model or if a price comparison is useful. Leave by 16:50. |
| Best test-hit selection: Windsor Racket Shop Shibuya / Google | 15-14 Sakuragaokacho; 10:30-19:30, normally daily | One of Windsor's largest selections plus an in-store racket test-hit corner when operating; the shop notes that weather can affect availability | Do not combine with the Day 2 two-shop route. Use a separate Shibuya/Omotesando slot if actually comparing racket feel. |
| Best used-racket specialist: Tennis Support Center Shibuya / Google | 25-1 Sakuragaokacho, 3F; Sunday/holiday around 10:00-19:00, Tuesday closed | New and used rackets, older model searches and specialist stringing advice | Choose instead of, not after, Windsor Shibuya. Verify current stock and hours because its inventory changes daily. |
Buying checklist:
- Bring a photo of the current racket label and record head size, unstrung weight, balance, grip size, string model and tension. Explain what feels wrong with the current setup rather than asking only for the most popular frame.
- For a racket, hold multiple units of the same model if available; manufacturing tolerances can change static weight and balance. Ask whether Windsor can measure candidate frames.
- Confirm whether the quoted racket price includes strings, stringing labour and a case. Ask for a written pickup time before paying for same-day stringing.
- For a bag, test it with a racket inside. Check airline-size practicality, shoe compartment, thermal racket lining, backpack straps and whether it still fits the luggage plan.
- Windsor and Victoria list tax-free service. Carry the original passport and do not assume every consumable or discounted item qualifies. A racket intended for use during the trip may not remain eligible under export conditions.
- Keep the receipt, tags and grip film. Windsor's published return guidance excludes used/customised items and rackets whose grip film has been removed.
Running routes: 4-10 km
All routes start and finish at Hotel Monterey Akasaka. Distances are approximate because Google Maps can reroute pedestrian paths; review the live path and street conditions before starting.
| Distance | Route | Surface / crossings | Best use | Google Maps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| About 4 km | Akasaka Palace and Yotsuya: follow public streets along the palace's east/north side, turn at Yotsuya and return via Akasaka-mitsuke. | Paved and rolling, with several crossings. The mapped 3.7 km loop stays outside restricted palace grounds. | Scheduled easy Day 2 run before tennis. | Open walking loop |
| About 6 km | Akasaka Palace + Meiji Jingu Gaien: follow the palace's public east side to Yotsuya, extend around the Gaien public streets and return via Aoyama-itchome. | Paved but interrupted by road crossings; the mapped 5.9 km route stays outside stadium, shrine and palace-restricted areas. | Optional middle-distance alternative; it is not scheduled on a fixed day. | Open walking loop |
| About 10 km | Imperial Palace: reach Hanzomon, complete the established palace loop counter-clockwise via Takebashi, Otemon and Sakuradamon, then return. | The 5.3 km palace loop is paved, mostly flat and has no traffic lights; the hotel connectors have crossings and slight grades. | Primary Day 7 run. | Open walking loop |
Prioritise the Friday 13 November Imperial Palace run. The official Tokyo guide describes the perimeter as a roughly 5.3 km, mostly flat route without traffic lights. Run counter-clockwise, keep left, stay single-file on narrow sections and yield to pedestrians.
The shorter scheduled option is Sunday 8 November around Akasaka Palace. Keep it easy because the afternoon tennis lesson and normal sightseeing already create a high activity load. Use the 6 km route only when recovery, weather and the day's schedule all support it.
Timing and weather:
- Start at 08:00 on Day 2 and Day 7, matching the no-early-departure preference while preserving dedicated shower time.
- Tokyo's November climate normal is about 16.7 C daytime maximum and 8.8 C overnight minimum. Around 08:00 in early/mid-November, plan for roughly 9-14 C, but use the actual hourly forecast.
- Do not schedule outdoor runs in Nikko or Hakone. Nikko's November mornings average near 3 C, while both mountain areas add steep grades, wet leaves, narrow roads and limited early light.
What to wear:
- At 10-13 C: running shorts or light tights, technical short-sleeve shirt, and optional arm sleeves or a very light long-sleeve layer.
- At 6-10 C or in wind: light tights, technical long-sleeve top and a thin packable wind shell. Thin gloves are optional for cold hands.
- Use normal road shoes with reliable wet-surface grip, technical socks and reflective details.
- Avoid cotton, insulated jackets and heavy layers; you should feel slightly cool at the start. Carry the shell around your waist once warm.
Check rain, wind and pavement conditions the night before. Wet ginkgo/maple leaves can be slippery. Carry the hotel key, phone and a small amount of cash/IC card; the palace loop has fountains and public toilets, so a handheld bottle is optional for an easy 5-10 km run.
Food souvenirs
Prioritise sealed, individually wrapped products that can remain at room temperature. The printed best-before date and storage instructions on the purchased package override this guide. Buy only what can be protected from heat/crushing and carried within the current Singapore private-import limits.
Kamakura take-home gifts
| Item | Why buy it | Typical budget | Best route purchase | Shelf life / storage | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kamakura Beniya Kurumicco | Walnut caramel between butter-cookie layers; the most distinctive modern Kamakura gift. | JPY900-2,500 | Hachimangu-mae or Komachi. Morning is safer because popular packs can sell out; skip a queue over five minutes. | About 30 days; printed date governs; room temperature. | Nuts, wheat, dairy and egg. |
| Toshimaya Hato Sabure | Classic dove-shaped butter biscuit with broad family appeal. | JPY600-3,700 | Kamakura or Hase route shops, including the Daibutsu-mae area. | Roughly 30-50 days depending on pack and stock; printed date governs. | Very fragile; wheat, dairy and egg. |
| Kamakura Goro Hangetsu | Crisp half-moon wafers with matcha and adzuki creams; individually wrapped for sharing. | JPY680-1,350 | Komachi-dori during the existing shopping block. | About 30 days; room temperature. | Wheat, egg, milk and soy; the facility also handles peanuts. |
| Kamakura Mameya bean snacks | Sweet and savory flavoured beans in small, shareable packs. | JPY300-2,500 | Komachi-dori. CIAL Kamakura is a fallback only when transfer time is not protected. | Good shelf life; use the printed date and keep sealed/dry. | Peanuts, soy and flavour-specific dairy, wheat, seafood, sesame or meat seasonings. |
Eat during the trip: Hikage Daifuku or another clearly same-day Kamakura wagashi can fit the Komachi block, but it is not a take-home recommendation.
Nikko take-home gifts
| Item | Why buy it | Typical budget | Best route purchase | Shelf life / storage | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ishidaya Nikko Jingoro Senbei | Salted-butter rice crackers and the strongest long-life Nikko gift. | JPY650-3,000 | Buy only if stocked at a route/station counter; do not detour to the main shop. | Standard pack published at about 120 days. | Fragile; check dairy, soy, wheat, sesame and flavour-specific ingredients. |
| Nikko Rusk | Colourful shareable rusks in sugar, maple, matcha and chocolate flavours. | JPY700-2,500 | Route-shop stock only; the dedicated cafe is not a scheduled stop. | About two months; room temperature; chocolate flavours are heat-sensitive. | Wheat, dairy, egg and soy; flavour-specific nuts. |
| Mitsuyama sealed bite-size or neri yokan | Compact traditional bean jelly suited to gifting. | JPY500-3,000 | Buy only when immediately available on the route; do not add a shop detour. | Use the printed date; choose the sealed shelf-stable form. | Do not confuse it with short-life or refrigerated mizu-yokan. |
| Nikko Yuba Fujiya Yuba Kashi | Sweet crisp tofu-skin confection with the strongest local-food identity. | JPY700-2,000 | Purchase only if stocked at a route shop; Fujiya is not a required detour. | Check the printed date and keep dry. | Soy is primary; verify wheat, dairy, egg and processing notes. |
Eat during the trip: Sakaeya fried yuba manju has a published three-day life but should be treated as an eat-now train snack. Buy only after locating the return platform and only with no queue.

| Hakone SAGAMIYA Nuts Vessel | Caramel pastry with seven kinds of nuts and a long shelf life. | JPY200-1,500 | Handled at Hakone Tozan Meisan-ten Gora, making it the best route fit. | About 90 days unopened. | Multiple tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, dairy and egg. |
| Kawabe Koueido Kuosen Senbei | Thin Western-style wheat crackers in a retro tin. | JPY1,300-1,700 | A Miyanoshita product; buy only if stocked on-route and never add a stop. | About one month unopened. | Wheat, white bean, margarine/dairy and egg; fragile. |
| Hakone no Saka gateau chocolat | Individually boxed chocolate cakes with standard and regional flavours. | JPY1,000-1,500 | Handled at the Gora station souvenir shop, making it the other best route fit. | About 90 days unopened. | Heat-sensitive; check wheat, dairy, egg, soy and flavour-specific ingredients. |
Eat during the trip: Owakudani black eggs are for immediate consumption in Hakone, not a Singapore gift. Chimoto Yumochi has a four-day consumption period and should be treated as an in-Japan treat, not a default flight souvenir.

| Furikake, nori or dashi packs | Practical savory gift for home cooks. | JPY500-3,000 | Ginza department store or airport food shop. | Check the printed date; store sealed and dry at room temperature. | Check for fish, shellfish, meat, egg, soy, wheat, sesame and alcohol-based seasoning. |
Cold-chain exceptions: refrigerated nama chocolate, fresh cream cakes, fresh wagashi, raw seafood and chilled products are not default take-home gifts. Buy one only when its package explicitly permits the full journey at room temperature or when the stated cold chain can be maintained through the flight and Singapore transport.
Buying plan
- Day 3 Kamakura: choose at most one robust regional gift plus one small pack. Protect fragile boxes and end shopping when the Komachi/Hase window ends.
- Day 6 Nikko: buy only after the return platform and car are secured, and only if the preselected product is immediately available. Do not add a dedicated shop stop.
- Days 3-5 Hakone: prioritise Gora-station Nuts Vessel or Hakone no Saka. Never browse during the protected Hakone-Yumoto connections.
- Primary general-gift window, Day 8 from 13:00-15:45: compare Ginza Mitsukoshi and Matsuya food halls. Buy robust long-life goods first and fragile/short-life goods last. Consolidate tax-free handling where eligible, but do not let a queue delay Kagari, luggage collection or airport travel.
- Late backup, Haneda Terminal 3: after security, use TOKYO SOUVENIR SHOP NORTH, officially listed 06:00-24:00, for last-minute boxed sweets. Tokyo Banana and any specific brand remain subject to stock. Keep the gate and airline cutoffs authoritative.
Storage, packing and Singapore rules
- Keep original sealed packaging, ingredient labels and receipts.
- Product packaging and printed dates override every shelf-life estimate in this guide.
- Keep regional products sealed with ingredient labels and receipts until Singapore entry is complete.
- Nut products, yuba/soy snacks, egg-containing sweets and savory flavourings require careful allergen and import review.
- Black eggs, fresh mochi, chilled yuba, cheesecake, fresh pudding, kamaboko and refrigerated sweets are not default Singapore gifts.
- Place tins and rigid boxes against suitcase structure; keep fragile biscuits and sponge cakes in cabin baggage when practical.
- Keep chocolate away from direct sun and hot vehicles. Separate strong-smelling savory products from tea and delicate sweets.
- Do not open tax-free sealed consumables in Japan when the purchase conditions prohibit it.
- Weigh food together rather than estimating by box count.
Singapore recheck required before departure: current SFA allowed-food guidance allows private-use processed foods that are not meat, fish, eggs, fruits or vegetables up to a combined 5 kg/5 L and S$100 per traveller. The Food Safety and Security Act is changing the framework in phases, so check the official list again in November 2026. Products containing meat, seafood, egg, fresh produce, hemp or CBD require category-specific scrutiny. Gifts remain for private consumption and must not be resold. Follow the SFA general rule and food-safety advice, especially its preference for products that do not require refrigeration.
Budget, clothing and luggage
Clothing, bathing and luggage
- Pack walking shoes with grip, light down/fleece, wind/rain layer and warm socks. Nikko's lake and Hakone's ropeway can feel much colder than Tokyo, particularly in wind.
- Keep one smart-casual outfit in the small bag for Tokyo's counter dinner. Yutowa's restaurant is resort-casual and does not require the former Fujiya dinner wardrobe.
- Wash before entering a communal onsen, normally bathe without swimwear, keep towels out of the water and tie up long hair. Follow Yutowa's current rules.
- Yutowa has public baths and reservable private baths but no swimming pool. Confirm the private-bath booking procedure and tattoo policy before arrival; do not assume coverings are accepted in the public bath.
- Use the same Tokyo property for both stays and ask whether it will keep the suitcase between 9 and 11 November while you are in Hakone.
- If storage is refused, arrange paid storage or Yamato TA-Q-BIN to a receiving hotel that agrees to accept it, with a specified delivery date. Allow JPY2,500-4,000 for a typical suitcase as an estimate; size, weight and route affect the charge.
- Keep passport, valuables, medication, chargers and dinner clothes in the two-night Hakone bag. Swimwear is not required for Yutowa's onsens. Nikko requires only a day pack.
- If carrying a very large suitcase on the Tokaido Shinkansen, check the current oversized-baggage rules and reserve the correct seat/storage option. Avoid creating this problem by taking only a small bag to Hakone.
Budget
| Component | Planning amount |
|---|---|
| Confirmed JAL round-trip flight, already paid | S$1,053 |
| Three selected hotel bookings at refreshed quotes | About S$1,773 official-rate interpretation / S$1,796 Trip.com interpretation |
| Food, snacks and drinks; four Yutowa meal services are included | JPY75,000-135,000, approximately S$680-1,225 |
| All Japan ground transport: airport rail, Tokyo/Kamakura rides, Nikko Tobu day trip, local buses, Hakone pass and JR return | JPY35,000-46,000, approximately S$320-420 |
| Core admissions and a small optional-attraction allowance | JPY7,000-11,000, approximately S$65-100 |
| One private tennis lesson and possible separate weekend court fee | JPY16,000-26,000, approximately S$145-235 |
| HEAD SPA Kuu Omotesando | JPY19,800-24,750, approximately S$180-225, pending selected booking channel/course |
| Selected-plan total including the paid flight, before contingency | About S$4,190-5,030 using the official Yutowa conversion, or S$4,210-5,050 using Trip.com |
| Selected-plan practical total-trip envelope | About S$4,500-5,400, including the paid flight but excluding shopping |
The practical envelope allows for repricing, booking fees, local taxes, small transport changes and moderate extras. Yutowa's included breakfasts and dinners remove the former Fujiya restaurant allowances. A guaranteed extra hotel night/day-use stay, substantial additional dining or spa treatments can require more.
The S$300/night preference is preserved for Tokyo, not for the whole trip. The Hakone resort may exceed it. The Nikko day trip reduces hotel cost but shifts part of that saving into transport and separately purchased meals.
Reduce the Cost While Keeping the Experience
- Keep the selected Yutowa half-board rate rather than paying separately for Hakone dinners.
- Choose either the Ushigoro dinner or an expensive regional wagyu meal, rather than both.
- If the total exceeds your comfort level, the cleanest change is one countryside destination plus more Tokyo dining, not cheaper rooms far from useful locations.
